It took me way too long to realize this was just the lyrics and not a real life representation of what it feels like to have chronic pain…
I think it’s supposed to be both

The thing I hate most about “parental rights” is how it’s used to actually mean “if I lose even one ounce of absolute control over my child, regardless of what they want or what’s good for them, my rights are being violated!”
it is so wild to me the fashions that are called “emo” today. especially given the fact that probably 80-90% of it is actually scene, not emo. this would have started full on wars 15 years ago
whenever people call this
emo it drives me BANANAS. no! this is not how emos did their hair. this was a scene look!!! some people might have gone from emo to scene depending on their age when new trends happened but they’re DISTINCT
this is getting more popular so i want to clarify, the above are obv scene queens and were what all scene kids aspired to HOWEVER. all of this⤵️? absolutely would have been considered scene in the late 00s (all photos from searching “emo” on pinterest)
whereas these are more emo⤵️
you will note that the scene kids wear brighter pops of color, especially neon pink and green. there’s a lot of pop culture references, patterns and texture. miniskirts very popular, the more layered the better. the emo kids are more simple, the black skinny jeans are a staple obv and usually dark hair and a band shirt, maybe some stripes but not anything crazier than that in terms of patterns. maybe a few accessories, but not so many that you hear them coming from a few miles away.
now THESE three are more in the middle. personally, i would categorize the first as scene, and the #1 giveaway there is the domo necklace- a scene icon- and the multitude/stacking of accessories backs it up. the middle is harder- the front of the hair and band shirt suggest emo, but the pink, layering, and the hair bow are decidedly scene. i think you could probably call it either way but i would lean scene. the last one is also hard- the hair highlights and amount of accessories are more scene, but the color scheme, especially the silver and black for the accessories as opposed to patterns, make me lean emo.

So I go to the dentist and the appointment I had was not the appointment that I thought I was going to have (normal maintenance vs deep clean) so i warned the dentist “hey heads up I burn through dental anesthetics super quick and also I’d like to use as little as possible because putting the dental anesthetics in my body is the most painful part of the process unless I’m having a root canal or something” and she’s like “Hmm. Okay. Is it just the injection site?” and I was like “no, it will feel like burning on the opposite side of my face and in my nose and eyes and stuff.” And she was like “Hmm. Do you turn really red when this happens?” And I was like “I don’t know, I can’t really see myself when it happens.” And she was like “are you willing to experiment with this a little?” And I was like “sure, no worries” and she injected me with one anesthetic and it hurt like a motherfucker and she and the assistant both went “OOOH” and she was like “Yeah you got really red right away let’s try the other,” and it was the same thing and then she was like “okay I think this is the one that will work” and it hurt a little bit but it was fucking NOTHING compared to the comprehensive full stabbing burning facial pain from the others and long story short the dentist was like “You’re reacting to the epinephrine in these other anesthetics,” which I guess is fairly common for people who have autoimmune disorders.
So I guess this is to say: If you get spreading, burning, stabbing pain when you are being injected with local anesthetics it’s not supposed to do that and you should say something.
The other thing is that the last time I had to be numbed at the dentist it WAS for a root canal and the typical anesthetics didn’t work for something that deep in my skull so the dentist had to bring out this wonderful huge gun thing that she apologized for and I was like “whatever there is no way the gun could ever be as scary as the drill hit me with your best shot” and it worked GREAT and also the injection didn’t hurt but I guess is the kind of thing they don’t like to use for just a normal filling so now I have an option for low-key stuff like cleanings and cavities (which I’ve often just refused anesthetic for because a cleaning doesn’t even register as pain for me most of the time - honesly i’m not even sure I needed the stuff today; it wore off before they’d finished my bottom teeth and the fact that it wore off was a non-issue but I’d like an option for fillings), AND an option for when they are going to have to stick four files in a tooth and question their entry into the dental profession (my teeth are body horror and the dentist had to craft a special file for that root canal because whatever the roots were doing was Not Allowed).
(I am also the one with a second set of wisdom teeth who woke up under anesthetic when i was having my first set of wisdom teeth out at 15 and who then realized codeine didn’t work on them so recovered from the wisdom teeth with advil and caffeine; also the teeth had to be sawed in half because they were big enough that the oral surgeon couldn’t remove them whole)
(I am ALSO the one who the dentists always call over other dentists to look at my teeth because three of my crowns are gold and apparently very well fitted and i guess that is a novelty on an American my age but i started having teeth replaced with crowns when I was thirteen because I was born with teeth and had lost all my baby teeth by six so i have had my adult teeth longer than most people my age which is also why i had my wisdom teeth out so early)
(so that’s what i mean when i say my teeth are body horror and yes i do have a lot of teeth falling out anxiety dreams)
Anyway if you are a person for whom teeth are a hell no kind of a problem my hot tip from the intersection of dental and mental problems is:
The important thing about brushing/flossing is preventing the buildup of plaques which can be done by disrupting the bacteria that cause them by brushing regularly and removing them below the gumline; if you can at least manage to brush once a day with a toothbrush and water you’re doing better than nothing but you should aim for twice a day and flossing at least once a day because this is not like the “you’ll get by with dry shampoo if you’re too depressed to shower” thing; this should be your number one hygiene priority because it has the most potential to be debilitating, unrecoverable, and expensive if your health goes to shit because you had trouble caring for yourself. Also if you cannot stand to floss get a waterpik, use it on the low setting, and use warm water.
Signed, someone with a long long history of depression and a lot of fucked up teeth.
